French Motorways

The Autoroute system in France consists largely of toll roads, except around large cities and in parts of the north. It is a network of 12,000 km (7,500 mi) worth of motorways. Known as autoroutes, are designated with numbers preceded by the letter A (for Autoroute).
Entrances to Motorways are marked as such with the word "Péage" (pronounced pay-arje). The normal procedure is to pick up a ticket from a booth as you enter the Motorway (just press the button); tolls are paid either when you leave the Motorway, or else when the toll section comes to an end. In a few places, there are fixed toll points on the Motorway, notably in urban areas or toll bridges.
When using the motorways/ autoroute with motorhomes it is important to know  your Gross Vehicle weight if your Motorhome is above 3500kg you may incur a higher charge when using the toll roads.
The 2 bands that will apply to motorhomes are Class 2 and Class 3 see picture below.
