A FAMILY-run motorhome dealer has announced it is producing its own brand of camper van, crafted at its base in Ashbourne.

Peak Camper Vans, a new company set up by Peak Leisure Vehicles in Derby Road, has rolled out its first ever camper van - its a  £40,000 conversion based on the well thought off VW Transporter van.

Dubbed the ‘Xplore’, director Steve Parsons set out to design a four berth camper van after customers started asking for a bespoke design.

Mr Parsons said: “We decided to build our own campervan after so many people requested it.

“Our aim with the VW Xplore is to create a four berth, multi-purpose vehicle that we would want to use with our own families for holidays and days out.”

The project began shortly after motorhome design expert Richard Bentley joined the team and the firm set about developing a sister brand, within which it intended to launch its own camper vans.

Peak Camper Vans co-founder and director Mr Bentley, said: “Forming Peak Camper Vans is the logical thing for Steve and I to do.

“Leisure time is more important than ever for people. We’ve seen an increase in people wanting a practical, comfortable, reliable and quality campervan to use with their families giving them the freedom to explore and make the most of their spare time.

“By building our own campervans, Steve and I can draw from our experience and give people exactly what they’ve been asking for.”

The formation of a sister company for Peak Leisure Vehicles is the latest in a long line of developments following a move in to Ashbourne from its former base in Kirk Langley, which the firm outgrew.
